(9.5 and 4.75 cm/s) IPS, the SN-S runs at half this speed

This Recorder has been serviced by Mike Harris Sound Services and has a 3 Month guarantee from the date of purchase

I am sorry I should have clean it before I took the pictures, it look OK when you see it at 6 x 4 inches (15 x 10 cm)

NAGRA SNN full-track recording, 3 3/4 and 1 7/8 in./sec. (9.5 and 4.75 cm/s) IPS

Before you use the recorder check the transport lock is off, that's the half round knob by the meter, it is now in the off position, if it is rotated down, the lock is on and you cannot operate the recorder.

Above left is the control lever, push in to (Load) and up to lock in, to play the tape, but if you have a microphone or Line input lead plugged in the connector ( just above the control lever) it is in the recording position and will record.

Pull out and up to lock the control lever to REWIND the tape, then at the top canter of the recorder is a rewind mechanism, press the flat bar that is across the top and the rewind arm will pop up, lift up the chrome pin, then holding the pin, wind the tape in a clockwise direction.

There is a high or low speed control just to the right of the rewind handle. The TTA control is Tape Tension Adjustment (this is set)

This recorder is fitted with a ALC (automatic lever control) threshold to adjust the record compression level, the Red control knob on the left. Next to it is the TTA tape tension adjustment, this is set and should not need adjusting.

On the right hand side of the SN-N is a push button battery test, the voltage is indicated on the meter

The tape spools are held by a cross bar, rotate the bar until it lines up with the slot in the tape spool and lift off the tape spool

The SN-N tape heads are in very good condition and the recorder is in perfect working order.

ABOVE LEFT - Right to Left, The control lever, The 6 pin connector is the Microphone or line input and when you plug into it switches the SN to record, there is no Direct output just off tape. The 5 pin socket it used for a pilot sync unit SGXS or remote stop start. And next to that is the mono headphone output,

ABOVE RIGHT you have one of the 3 bottom case opening screws for changing the 2 x AA batteries, next is the battery test button and the socket is a connector to the LPS docking station.

Nagra SN-N MONO FULL TRACK RECORDER, The serial number is 2008610

Inside the bottom case is a block diagram with connection information for accessories, there is a stain from battery leaking inside bottom left. And inside the lid are operating instructions, there is also the trimming tool in it's clip by the lid catch

This recorder is in very good working condition and is complete with 3 windows in the lid, and the only scratches on the case are on the bump over the motor above left.

Above you can see the 2 AA batteries that the recorder runs on, The machine has the following features: It is a half track mono recorder; it has a not very good lapel microphone. But if you intend to use it for covert recording I do have new processional lavaliere microphones

Recording When the Microphone / Line input plug is fitted in the side of the SN, it switches it to the record mode, pushing in the control lever to ON, the recorder will run the tape, check your level on the meter, it has a automatic record compression level, controlled by the red control. From the PHONES 3.5 mono jack socket on the left side of the SN. This is an off tape output to monitor the recording, there is a delay from the direct input. There is no Direct output. This socket is the playback output when their is no connector plugged into the 6 pin input socket, But it you are using the SMR microphone input unit you can switch between record and playback.

LEFT : This kit has an original Nagrastatic ARS11067 R microphone, and a 3.5 mono jack plug to 3.5 stereo jack socket with DC blocking, so you can use stereo headphones or use a jack to jack lead to connect to a computer, there is also a output lead from mono 3.5 jack to 3-pin XLR with DC blocking, I can make up other output leads if you need them. I have included 3 metal spools of tape and 1 empty metal spools, I don't have the original SN leather case, or the original box, but have included a cloth bag.

Above Right : Please note: - Not Included in the price. This is a SN Micro plug to 2 screw lock 3.5 jack sockets adapter, that give you line or microphone inputs, with a 3.5 screw lock jack plug to 3-pin XLR lead. You can have the original lead that has not been modified with the recorder or the modified lead for £100 extra

This lead can be made up from the original Nagra SN XLR to Micro plug Dynamic microphone input lead, but this one has been cut up because I cannot get the Micro plugs, and a microphone and line input was needed, and to make it passable to have a number of input leads with different connectors, so I have made up this adapter using 3.5 screw lock jack plug and sockets

because the original lead cost so much, these adapter and one tail are £200, if sold without the SN recorder

More info on the SN see Crypto Museum
